Arthur-Hartdegen Trail
Scenic hiking trail in Riva di Tures
Starting from Rein (1602 m), we initially follow the dirt roads into the Knuttental Valley until we reach the parking lot. From there, we turn right onto trail No. 8A, cross the Knuttenbach stream (wide bridge) and climb up to a beautifully situated farmhouse. The trail passes through wooded terrain to the Lower Kofleralm (2034 m) and continues through a beautiful Swiss pine forest to the Upper Kofleralm (2192 m). Our high-altitude path (always marked with No. 8a) then climbs gently over rocky alpine slopes to the Ursprungalm (2393 m), where magnificent views of the Rieserferner glacier world open up.
The next section of the trail to the Kasseler Hut (marked with No. 8) is part of the Arthur-Hartdegen Trail, which offers a stunning high-altitude hike above the Reintal Valley. First, we cross the Ursprungbach stream, bypass a mountain flank, and soon the Rieserferner Glacier presents itself in all its majesty. The otherwise well-maintained path here has a spot that requires a bit of caution.
After crossing the terminal moraine of the Hochgall, we reach the Kasseler Hut (2275 m) and descend gradually into the Reintal Valley on Trail No. 1, passing by a few alpine huts and high above the Bachertal valley.
