Wollbachspitze
One of the easiest 3000-meter peaks in the Ahrntal
From the church of St. Jakob in the Ahrntal (1,180 m), follow the signs for Wollbachalm and trail no. 5. The route initially leads partly along a farm access road and partly across meadows up to the forest. Then, continue steeply on trail no. 5 through the forest to a crossing forest road, which you follow almost level to reach the Wollbach Alm (1,607 m).
From the hut, follow the sign for Wollbachspitze and take the marked trail on the orographic left, through dwarf pine slopes deeper into the valley, climbing up to the so-called Innerhütten (ruined alpine shelters, 1,924 m). Continue on the marked path, briefly further into the valley, then cross the stream to the left and ascend across grassy slopes and steep moraine debris. A long climb leads to the western edge of the striking terminal moraine called Sandrain (approx. 2,600 m).
From there, often over lingering snow patches, enter the large moraine basin and climb up to the Wollbachjoch (2,830 m). At the saddle, turn right and follow the blocky ridge easily up to the summit (3,210 m).
