Taufers Castle
The castle above Sand in Taufers
Castle Taufers is one of the best-preserved castles in Tyrol. The former fortress of the Lords of Taufers came into the possession of the South Tyrolean Castle Institute in 1977. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the castle was expanded into a residence. Since the castle has never been subjected to attacks or destruction, the furnishings have remained almost intact. Today, the castle features 64 well-furnished rooms, some of which are paneled. Romanesque and Gothic artworks, the Pacher frescoes in the chapel, the armory, and the weapons chamber continue to captivate those interested in culture and art.
